NUNA Today

Nuna, drawing on the years of knowledge and expertise of its management team and northern partners, became a northern success story and a company providing dependable and comprehensive project construction, logistics, contract mining, infrastructure planning, earthworks, large diameter drilling, heavy equipment field/simulator contract training, mining support services and mining products to Canada's mining industry.

In October, 2001 Nuna Logistics formed Nuna Training Technologies Ltd. and became the 1st in Canada to offer heavy equipment training utilizing Immersive Technologies' heavy equipment training simulator. This technology not only benefits mining and construction companies, but is a highly effective piece of mobile equipment that can be transported to remote communities and technical institutions enhancing existing programs. Nuna owns 2 heavy equipment simulators with over 8 equipment conversion kits (Caterpillar, Komatsu, P&H) that can be easy swapped out from one machine to another within minutes.

In 2005, Nuna and Bauer Maschinen GmbH formed a working relationship for the development the BG 36 large diameter drill. The BG 36 is state-of the art large diameter drilling technolgy capable of drilling 1.2 m diameter holes to a depth of 350 m. Nuna became the 1st in Canada to provide large diameter drilling. Nuna formed Nuna Drilling (F.A.L.C.) Ltd. to carryout drilling services to Shore Gold Inc.

In 2009, Nuna introduced Nuna Innovations Inc. Nuna Innovations actively seeks investment or management opportunities in emerging products and services that are not only supported by Nuna's extensive experience in the mining and construction market but have potential for success in the broader marketplace. Nuna Innovations currently has two divisions: EZ Street Canada, a proprietary additive for production of cold asphalt, and Airstar Lighting, a unique suite of portable industrial lights that replicate natural sunlight.

Since inception, Nuna has been involved with the majority of the resource companies operating in the Northwest Territories and Nunavut, and have expanded their operations into Saskatchewan and Ontario, Canada.

The hiring and training of Inuit, Aboriginal, and local staff has been a focus of Nuna's resulting in the Company having, among owners and contractors, the highest percentage of local residents working on projects in which Nuna is involved. Our ongoing education programs and training opportunities will allow the labour source not only to grow, but to advance to provide proficient operations managers in the future. Nuna's workforce at various times exceeds 600 people working on various projects in the North. Nuna has succeeded in employing in excess of 55% northern staff on its operations over the past several years.

Nuna is committed to the development of long term business relationships.  Nuna has several successful joint ventures and partnerships with Aboriginal groups throughout Canada.  This diversity provides a unique opportunity for sustainable employment options for Beneficiaries that possess or have acquired the necessary skill sets that could be transferable to other Nuna projects in other communities, provinces and territories.  This provides an avenue to develop sustainable trade and business skills necessary for long term capacity building.  In all cases, our practice is to source the local Aboriginal labour followed by local labour within the impacted communities of the projects as a first step and then supplement with other Aboriginal labour if a demand exists and project economics permit.

The dedication and hard work of Nuna group of companies', joint ventures' and partnerships' workforce is what has made and continues to make Nuna successful. We wish to extend our appreciation and thanks our workforce and partners.
