Nuna Logistics’ Role
Nuna Logistics’ role includes being involved as a consultant and contractor
on the project since the early stages, from transportation and site
logistics, to budgetary estimates, and construction of earthworks, and
contract mining.
Specifically
Earthworks and Quarry Work
construction of a 2,100m blasted granite runway to handle Boeing
727/737, including aprons and access roads
preparation of decline tunnel entrance including blasting, excavation,
rock bolting and screening
supply of crushed construction backfill materials for plant site and
road maintenance
construction of a 31km all-weather access and haulage road linking the
Ekati site to the Misery site ice roads / ice pads
construction of a 160km winter road, over the barren lands and frozen
lakes, to support a major exploration drill program
Support and Logistics
provided drill support for five large rigs, including the transport of a
200-person workforce and relevant equipment, snow clearing and road
maintenance
installation of a remote development site comprising camps, shops, fuel
storage, and mining supplies sufficient for a ten month underground
diamond bulk sample program
Transportation
transported bulk bagged cement from Hay River, NT, to the Ekati mine
site for the construction of the plant during winter road of 1996.
Pre-Strip and Contract Mining
provided contract mining services for the pre-stripping program at the
Panda pit. Nuna Logistics' personnel moved 1.2 million tonnes per month
over 10 months during this pre-stripping program that commenced early
1997 and finished late-1998
constructed CEA award-winning 800m long frozen core dam, including the
installation of aggregate handling and kiln facilities that commenced
January 1998 – early April 1998)
provided contract mining services for the pre-stripping of the Koala
North and Misery pits and contract mining of the Misery Pit (in
progress).
