All-Weather Roads & Runways

Nothing happens in the Arctic without dependable means of supply and NUNA's specialized knowledge of northern operations has enabled us to design, build and maintain the reliable all-weather infrastructure required for continuous and cost efficient operation in otherwise isolated regions of northern Canada.

With NUNA's multi-million dollar heavy equipment fleet and on site crushing plants, NUNA has built the majority of all-weather access roads, project site roads and runways in Nunavut and the Northwest Territories. The size and reliability of our fleet, the experience of our personnel and their intimate knowledge of Arctic weather and soil conditions, make it possible to construct essential infrastructure in a very timely and efficient manner.

Tehek 108 km All-Weather Road
Agnico-Eagle Mines Limited, Meadowbank Gold Project, Nunavut, Canada

In October 2006, NUNA M&T Services Ltd. commenced construction of Agnico-Eagle Mines’ Tehek Road a 108 km all-weather road from Baker Lake to the Meadowbank project (Nunavut’s longest all-weather road). Mobilization of a heavy equipment construction fleet, crushing plant, fuel, supplies, camp and shop were accomplished using barges. The road required a crew of over 60 to drill, blast, move and place over 1.7 million m³. The road was completed April, 2008. NUNA M&T also provided site services, culvert work, bridge and emulsion road construction.

Baffinland Iron Mines Corporation, Mary River Iron Ore Project, Nunavut, Canada

Baffinland Iron Mines Corporation's Mary River iron ore deposit is located 160 km south of Pond Inlet, Baffin Island, Nunavut. In 200, NUNA mobilized its heavy equipment fleet for the bulk sample program which involved the construction and maintenance of an all-weather 120 km access road.

All-Weather Runway Construction, Northwest Territories and Nunavut, Canada
NUNA has assisted with the designed and construction of the majority of all-weather runways located in Nunavut and the Northwest Territories.  Small sample of our projects include:
